ENTERTAINMENT: WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT

Cover chapter1

Cinemas were shut and filming stalled due to lockdowns around the globe. Even the fashion world was not spared.

Ever since the pandemic began, the global entertainment and fashion industry have had to take a step back and figure out how to keep the show going.
In the beginning, filming of numerous movies and serials, runway shows, theatre productions and live tours had to be stopped due to lockdowns. Social distancing rules also meant cinemas and theme parks were no-go areas.
The release of several films had to be delayed because cinemas were shut. Some films went straight to streaming sites (more on that later) because some money is better than no money, right?
Those production houses/producers with the funds, time and patience to wait decided their films deserved a theatrical release — Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was one of those movies.
Movies and TV shows in the middle of filming had to be stalled to comply with the rules.

Jobless entertainers

Millions of people behind the camera and in front of it have been out of work and the pandemic’s impact has led to an unfathomable monetary loss.
Global events company Live Nation has even put together a fund to assist live entertainment crew, who rely on concerts and tours for their bread and butter.
Musicians, who have historically made most of their income from touring, have had to find other means to bring in the dough. Some artists have taken to streaming free and paid online concerts, and selling merchandise to make up for lost income.
The coronavirus didn’t spare the fashion world too. The industry runs on seasonal releases and the big brands market their clothes through flashy runway shows filled with A-listers, models, stylists and others.
No more of that due to social distancing rules, and no more fashionable after-parties either! The pandemic forced them to put down their scissors and measuring tapes and wait it out.
